Some state departments of transportation (DOTs) capture video from cameras mounted on fleet vehicles. One use of the video is to share on a state’s traveler information website, providing users with an image of roadway conditions in real or near real time.
This project is researching current uses and practices of video captured from forward facing cameras on fleet vehicles as well as innovative purposes. The project will complete an online search and a State DOT survey to investigate various uses. The research will document:
- Current uses of video captured from fleet vehicles
- Pilot projects that explored the uses of video captured
- Innovative uses for video captured by fleet vehicles
